“A Hotdog and the Goodness of God”

I got a free hot dog at lunch today.  Siskiyou Telephone Company has a Customer Appreciation Day every year in the middle of June. The event is a nice gesture to the customers of Siskiyou Telephone Company.  I decided to take a drive around Horn Lane, Eastside Road, Island Road and back to Etna while I ate my hot dog.  The scenery was striking in every direction.  I could look at Salmon Mountain and see snow on top.  The same could be said of the Trinity Alps to the south.  Similar amounts of snow were visible to the west in the Marble Mountains.  Scott River has bountiful water.  The farmers are cutting hay and the smell of fresh cut hay is sweet.  Two of my favorite Bible verses are in the Psalms. “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof”. (Psalm 24:1-5)   “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands”.  (Psalm 19:1)  I admire God’s creation every day in Scott Valley.  The natural beauty God created often catches my attention.  The wonder of light flowing through rain clouds and producing a rainbow is amazing.  Clouds, lightning and thunder point me to the power of God around His throne.  I am reminded of the verse in Revelation 4:5.  “From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder.”  As C.S. Lewis wrote in “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe”:   “He is not safe but He is good”.  What a fabulous description of the attributes of God.  He has all power in heaven and earth.  He has created all things and holds everything together.  Yet if that is all we know of God we would be frightened and cower in our guilt and shame.  Yet, when we look to Jesus and the price he paid for our salvation we can know that God is good.

We can see God’s design in creation and it all points to our sovereign creator.  “He is good and all that He does is good”.

Be sure and come out to the Etna City Park on Sunday for Father’s Day.  The Fricks are making pulled pork sandwiches.  Church begins at 10 am.  Bring a lawn chair.
