This coming Sunday we will study “The Shrewd Manager” in Luke 16:1-14. It is one of the most difficult parables that Jesus utilized. It is difficult because the shrewd manager was dishonest yet Jesus cites his actions as something Christians could learn from. This seems strange yet we can read many stories in history and great works of literature and learn something from ill advised actions. I have often read of Nebuchadnezzar’s arrogance and  hubris in Daniel and shook my head in disbelief. “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as my royal residence, my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?” Daniel 4:30. God judged him at that point and Nebuchadnezzar lost his sanity for a time. He literally ate grass like an ox until God restored his mental faculties. It is disturbing story about God judging the pride of a man yet restoring him after a time. The Bible is full of stories like this. Proverbs utilizes many such examples. They are helpful learning examples which can put spiritual truth in our minds for consideration and learning. The shrewd manager tells us much about wise money management and preparation for the future. The story challenges us to utilize earthly wealth for eternal good. The Pharisees needed to hear this. We find that the Pharisees had a greedy attitude towards money. “The Pharisees who loved money heard all this and were sneering at Jesus”. Luke 16:14
Come out to church on Sunday and let’s see what we can learn from the shrewd manager in Luke 16:1-14
God Bless You
