“Humble Faith”

Humble faith is not simply something we claim to believe—it is something we are called to live. In James, we are reminded that pride disrupts our relationship with God and damages our relationships with others, while humility restores us and brings our hearts back into alignment with Him.

A humble faith learns to recognize the difference between worldly wisdom and heavenly wisdom. The world celebrates self-promotion, envy, and selfish ambition, but the wisdom that comes from above is altogether different: it is pure, peaceable, gentle, open to reason, and full of mercy. When heaven’s wisdom begins to shape our lives, it becomes visible not merely in our words, but in the way we love, serve, and respond to others.

James also helps us see that much of the conflict around us begins within us. Our struggles often grow out of our own desires, pride, and need for control. Rather than insisting on our own way, humble faith invites us to surrender to God’s way, trusting that His will is better, His wisdom is higher, and His purposes are always good.

At its core, humble faith calls us to draw near to God. James makes it clear that there is no safe middle ground between friendship with the world and surrender to the Lord. Yet this call is not harsh—it is gracious. God opposes the proud, but He gives grace to the humble. That grace is available to all who are willing to submit to Him, turn from sin, and return to His loving presence.

Humble faith also transforms the way we see people. It softens a critical spirit and replaces judgment with compassion. When we truly remember the mercy we ourselves have received, we become more ready to extend that same mercy to others.

This kind of faith is not meant to be lived alone. This week, take a simple step toward community—start a small group, linger for a conversation after church, or reach out to someone who may need encouragement. And as you invest in others, also make space each day to meet with God in His Word. Let Him shape your heart, reorder your desires, and grow humility within you. A faith that walks closely with God and deeply with others is a faith that will be strengthened, sustained, and in time, lifted up by Him.

In grace and love,

Pastor Brant
