“Resting In Jesus”

Our small group is in chapter 4 of Hebrews this week and the main theme is resting in Jesus. It spends some time looking back on the children of Israel and their journey to the Promised Land. Sadly, because of their disbelief and constant complaining, they never enjoyed the land that God had prepared for them. Look at 1st Corinthians 10:1-13. I have to admit that with all the blessings that God has brought to me, I still complain……..sad huh? Are we – in the 21s century- really any different than the Israelites in 1st Corinthians? God provided everything they needed for the journey and still they wanted to go back to Egypt. In turn, God has provided everything we need for our journey in this life and the one to come. And yes, because we live in a fallen world, we will have disappointments, pain and many times suffering. If you’ve been blessed to live into your 50’s and beyond, you know what life can be like.If you’ve walked with the Lord for any length of time, you know that He is faithful. I’m sure all of us know verses that give us hope in every situation. Just one example is Romans 8:31. “What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God be for us, who can ever be against us? Since He did not spare even His own Son, but gave Him up for us all, won’t He freely give us everything else?” or 2nd Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and sound mind”. Praise God!

John Wetzig will be preaching from 2 Peter this Sunday.
