Wanda Kiep – Celebration of Life
Wanda Ruth Kiep, a beloved longtime resident of Etna, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 31, 2026, at the age of 93. For nearly seven decades, Etna was not just her home, but the place where she built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.
Wanda was born on December 6, 1932, in Pocasset, Oklahoma, to Eldon and Minnie (McClellin) Wilder. In 1953, she married the love of her life, Alfred John Kiep Jr., and together they began a journey that brought them to Etna in 1957, where they would put down deep roots and raise their family.
Wanda had a lifelong love of learning and teaching. She began her career as a teacher before dedicating herself fully to raising her children. Later, she returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher, where she continued to share her knowledge and care with generations of students.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Wanda was deeply involved in the Scott Valley Berean Church, where she served in countless ways over the years. She played the piano, taught Bible studies, organized the church directory, led the prayer chain, served as a deaconess, greeted newcomers, and quietly supported families in need. Wanda didn’t just see the struggles of others—she stepped in to help, offering her time, her energy, and her compassionate heart.
She also found joy in creating with her hands. Whether sewing, knitting, or crocheting, Wanda lovingly made clothing and gifts for those around her, each piece a reflection of her generosity and care.
Wanda will be remembered as a deeply loving and selfless woman—someone who was always ready to lend a hand, solve a problem, or brighten someone’s day. Tireless in her efforts and unwavering in her kindness, she made a lasting difference in the lives of so many.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Alfred; her children, Linda Hay of Tustin, Claudia Hooten of Fresno, and Dan Kiep of Etna; as well as three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her older sister Velma and younger brother Bob.
A Celebration of Wanda’s life will be held on May 9, 2026, with a committal service at 1:00 p.m. at Etna Cemetery, followed by a church service and reception at 2:00 p.m. at Scott Valley Berean Church.
