There is something powerful about receiving a personal letter. A letter has a way of getting past the noise and speaking directly to the heart. It is personal, intentional, and often reveals what matters most.
Lately, I have found myself reflecting on a simple but challenging question: If Jesus wrote a letter today, what would He say? What would He say to me personally, and what would He say to us as a church? Would He encourage us, challenge us, or call us to deeper trust, greater obedience, and renewed devotion? What might He want us to see that we have overlooked?
These are not hypothetical questions. In the opening chapter of Revelation, the apostle John encounters the risen and glorified Christ. Before any letters are delivered, John is given a vision of Jesus—the One who walks among His churches, knows them completely, and loves them enough to speak truth to them. Revelation begins not with a focus on future events, but with a clear picture of Christ Himself.
In a few weeks, we will begin a new sermon series through the seven letters found in Revelation chapters 2 and 3. These letters were written to real churches facing real challenges, yet their message continues to speak powerfully to believers today. As we prepare for that journey, I want to encourage you to begin reading Revelation 1. Spend time considering who Jesus reveals Himself to be and what it means that He still walks among His people.
Over the next week, I invite you to sit with this question: If Jesus wrote a letter to your life today, what would He say? And if He wrote a letter to our church, would we be willing to listen?
My prayer is that, together, we would approach this upcoming study with humble hearts, eager to hear what the Spirit says to the churches and ready to respond wherever Christ may lead.
