We live in a world flooded with content. Sermons. Podcasts. Books. Reels. Opinions. We can hear more truth in a week than most generations heard in a lifetime. But hearing truth and living truth are not the same thing.
As we begin our new series through the book of James, we’re stepping into one of the most direct and practical letters in the New Testament. James doesn’t allow us to sit comfortably in the crowd. He calls us forward. He challenges passive faith. He presses us toward action.
In James 1:22, he writes, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” That’s strong language. Not misinformed. Not confused. Deceived.
It’s possible to attend church consistently, take notes diligently, nod in agreement passionately—and still walk away unchanged. It’s possible to admire truth without applying it. To agree with Scripture without obeying it. But James won’t let us stay there.
This series is about a faith that moves. A faith that works. A faith that shows up in our trials, our words, our relationships, our generosity, and our everyday decisions. Because real spiritual maturity isn’t measured by how much we know. It’s revealed by how faithfully we obey.
My prayer as we begin this journey is simple: that we would not just grow in information—but in transformation. That what we hear on Sunday would shape how we live on Monday.
Let’s not just listen well. Let’s live it out.
In Grace and Love,
Pastor Brant
