If you have ever studied Bible prophecy then you have no doubt been watching the recent events in the Middle East. Hamas bombed Israel on October 7 and hundreds were killed. The fighting has intensified in recent days as Israel attempts to defend itself and push back terrorism. It has been fascinating to watch groups from different sides of the political debate line up with words of endorsement or condemnation depending upon their political perspective. According to many news reports Hamas has beheaded children yet some supporters of the Palestinian cause refuse to condemn the action. Apparently Iran is behind Hamas with support and military hardware. China and Russia are no doubt watching intently to see what will happen hoping to gain territorial and political advantage in the region. It is a fascinating time to be alive. We know this is all a spiritual battle. Satan hates Israel and wants to destroy God’s chosen people. End times events will take place just as prophesied in the Bible. Ezekiel 38-39 has prompted many interpretations from end times Bible students. “Here the prophet saw the final manifestation of antagonism to Jehovah and His people. He saw it gathering itself in terrific force, the mightiest alliance that had ever acted against Israel.” (Morgan) This is pointing to the battle of Armageddon, no doubt. I love the words of Zechariah 14:3-4 where it says, “A day of the Lord is coming …. Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle. On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,”
I want to see that happen. Bible prophecy has prompted countless sermons and books in the last 150 years. That is good and it prompts diligent Bible students to study God’s Word. It also keeps the church vigilant and alert as we serve the Lord. But, a word of caution. We never set dates for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Whether Jesus is coming back in 5 years or 100 years we still live as good stewards of the resources He has placed in our care to spread the Gospel. “lift up your heads for your redemption draws nigh” Luke 21:28
God Bless You
