“Our God is the Living God”

Isaiah 46:3–4 “Listen to Me, O house of Jacob, And all the remnant of the house of Israel, You who have been borne by Me from birth And have been carried from the womb; Even to your old age I will be the same, And even to your graying years I will bear you! I have done it, and I will carry you; And I will bear you and I will deliver you.

There is an interesting comparison in Isaiah 46. Isaiah starts with the gods of the people around Israel. They have to be carried from place to place. They need oxen and carts to convey them from place to place. “They stoop, they bow down, they cannot save the burden.” They cannot rescue their worshipers, because they themselves need to be rescued.

But your God, o Jacob. He carries YOU. He rescues you. He has carried you from infancy. He will continue to carry you even ‘to your graying years’.

Our God is the Living God, the God that carries us. He does not need us. “The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things” Acts 17:24–25
