This past Sunday, we stepped onto The Road to Bethlehem together, remembering that Advent begins not with celebration, but with longing. Hope doesn’t start in bright moments—it often begins in the dark. Just as Israel waited through centuries of silence, God often does His greatest work long before we see the evidence of it. Advent reminds us that darkness is not a sign that God is absent; it’s often the very place where His light first begins to glow.
Hope also trusts in what God has said, even when our circumstances tell a different story. Every prophecy about the Messiah was fulfilled exactly as promised, proving again that God is faithful to His word. When life feels uncertain or overwhelming, we don’t anchor our hope in what we feel—we anchor it in what God has declared.
But hope doesn’t just comfort us; it moves us. Advent hope is active. It led Mary and Joseph to step out in obedience even without all the answers. It encourages us today to keep moving forward, even if all we can see is the next small step illuminated before us. Hope leads us to take the next step, trusting that the same God who guided them on the road to Bethlehem is guiding us on the road we’re walking now.
As we continue through this season, remember that hope is not passive, fragile, or uncertain. It is God’s light breaking into our darkness. It is His voice reminding us that His promises stand. And it is His presence urging us forward, step by step, toward His purpose.
As we travel this Advent road, let hope guide our hearts. Let His light shine in our dark places. Let God’s promises steady us, and give us courage to take the next step that He has laid before us.
