This Sunday we will continue in Luke 12. Verses 35-59 will be our focus in Luke 12. Are you ready, watching and anticipating the Second Coming of Jesus? This is the theme of these verses. What does it mean for us as born again followers of Jesus to be “ready and watching” for the Second Coming? This is an important question for us to answer as a church and as individual followers of Jesus. I don’t need to tell you that our world is in turbulent upheaval everywhere we look. Whether we look at international or national politics there is dissension of every type. There are “wars and rumors of wars” in the Ukraine and other places around the globe. How should we live in these times? We could live in fear. We could live in a passive state of unawareness. We could pursue the pleasures and foolishness of our world and take temporary satisfaction in that. We could imitate the words of the mockers that Peter describes in II Peter 3:4, “where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” Some mock the notion of a “Second Coming of Jesus Christ”. Jesus is coming a Second time just as He came the first time. I might add there will be one important difference. Jesus came the first time as a “Suffering Servant” to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus will come as a mighty warrior to judge the earth when He comes the second time. Read Revelation 19:11-21. So what should our attitude and posture be as we anticipate the Second Coming of Jesus? On Sunday we will find an answer to that question in Luke 12.
We are always hoping for more small group Bible studies at SVBC. This Sunday we will introduce the Small Group leaders and what they are studying this fall. Pray about opening your home once a week and hosting a small group Bible study. If you are interested or have questions talk to me or one of the elders. The Awana leaders will have a training luncheon after church on Sunday in Room #1. “Kick-0ff” Night is September 13. Be sure to put the Ministry Fair on your calendar. The date is October 8. The Ministry Fair gives an opportunity to see the various ministries and service opportunities that are available at SVBC. Stay after church and have a piece of pizza. Talk to ministry leaders and see how you can get involved. There is great joy in serving as Jesus did.
God Bless You
