This week many Catholic and some Protestant churches have Ash Wednesday services. The Ash Wednesday service marks a 40 day period of prayer and fasting that ends on Thursday evening prior to Good Friday. Believers who recognize Ash Wednesday commemorate the day by attending a church service. The Ash Wednesday service is concluded with a cross marked on the forehead of each participant. The mark is made with actual ashes. Our church doesn’t have an Ash Wednesday service but there is something we can learn by recognizing these holy days and seasons. The 40 day season of Lent is a time for prayer, fasting and spiritual reflection. These spiritual practices afford us the opportunity to slow down from daily activities to reflect and meditate on the events of the life of Christ during Passion week. These events would include Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday. Join us during the next 40 days as we focus on the redemptive love of our Savior. He poured out his blood in an atoning sacrifice on Calvary. He conquered death, Satan and the power of the grave on Resurrection Sunday. All glory, honor and praise belongs to our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ!
God Bless You
