Greg Griffin had some amazing stories last Sunday of people being prayed for and healed on some of his mission trips. It is so important to be reminded that God is still the great “Healer”. The small study group “Afternoon Delight” has just started the book of Hebrews. It’s central theme is the “Sufficiency and Superiority of Christ” . There were false teachers during this period of time that were saying that God could only be reached by going through angels . We know that the Bible only names 3 angels: Michael, Gabriel and Satan. In 2 Kings 19:35 is the event where an “angel of the Lord” killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. One angel with “no name” – WOW! However, the author of Hebrews wanted to make it very clear that Jesus was far superior to any angel. Michael was the most powerful angel. Gabriel was the messenger angel and the fallen angel – Satan – the “father of lies” is now the angel of death and destruction. Because we have God’s Word, we are in a wonderful position of “knowing” the truth. I found a great quote: “If you don’t know the Bible – read 2 Tim.2:15. If you don’t know sound doctrine – read John 8:21-32. If you don’t know theolgy – read 1 John 2:20-21”. Any one of us could be fooled as the Jewish nation was and thus the book of Hebrews.
