SVBC’s unusually well-stocked library, thanks to the commitment of Lynda Pollard over a period of some twenty years, is now – in 2023 – being put on-line by a trio of book lovers: Leann Daniel, Diana Donahue and Susan Houg.
Using a searchable online app called Tiny Cat/Library Thing (created especially for small libraries), these ladies have been cataloging our library for the last several months. Though not quite halfway through the collection, they will share a link on the SVBC “What’s Brewing?” and also in the weekly bulletin. Once connected, they can then search by author, title, topic or key words (tags) to find the materials in which they are interested.
It’s our hope that many more folks in our church will try this service and delve into the rich and diverse collection of theology, Bible studies, science and religion, inspiring biographies and memoirs, classic and modern devotional literature, discipleship/growth, leadership, missions, marriage and parenting, as well as a whole wall of fiction. We also maintain a small but growing section of DVD’s and audio books, as well as two shelves for children.
Your use of the library might be one stop on the way to purchasing a book elsewhere, or a resource to bring more to the table at your weekly home group, or an introduction to series authors you feel really “get” you.
Books can be expensive, but the SVBC library grows primarily by donations. This democratic sourcing assures that no one person or philosophy governs what is on our shelves. If the book does not duplicate a title we already have, and if it’s not heretical, we will take it! Reformed, Pentecostal, Evangelical, Methodist, Baptist points of view – and more – are all available. Volumes we can’t use, we pass along to Zephyr Books Cafe in Yreka, for example.
When you open the link, you will see details about checking out materials, a list of “tags” (key words) and other helps. Happy browsing, and we’ll see you in the library Sundays after church, or you can come in any day of the week the church is open for DIY checkouts.
