I just read the Gospel account of the woman at the well, in John 4. Jesus had a very interesting discussion with a Samaritan woman, a discussion which in itself was unusual. The woman at first was scornful toward Jesus, then became curious as He continued to draw her in. Finally, after Jesus revealed Himself to her as the coming Messiah by telling her her own life story, she was at least partially convinced. She left her water jug by the well, ran to her home town, and said, “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?” (John 4:29) At this invitation, it seems the whole village ‘streamed out’ to see Jesus.
“Come and see”. That illustrates Jesus’ instruction to His disciples, and to us, “You shall be my witnesses.” (Acts 1:8) Come and see. A simple invitation, a challenge to investigate.
If you have a friend that is a skeptic, perhaps this invitation would open a door for them. “Just come and see. Give an honest hearing to the good news about Jesus.” Encourage them to read the gospels with an open mind, and then ask the Holy Spirit to open their hearts to God’s truth in His Son Jesus.
