The Historic Scott Valley Berean Church was built around 1882 as a Congregational Church. It was sold to the Bereans in 1967 for $1 by the last of the Congregationalists, and was used until1997. Since then, it has been used primarily as a gathering place for the Scott Valley Youth Group.
In 2020 the Elder Board appointed Lynne Bryan as chairperson of the Historic Church Renovation Project committee that included Jim Morris, Drew Travis, Lisa Travis, Phillip Johnson, and later Myron Johnson, Jerry Hutt, and Joe Hudson. After ascertaining from a licensed contractor that the building was in good enough condition to do the renovation work the exterior of the building has been painted; an interior wall with windows and a French door has been placed between the sanctuary and overflow room, allowing each space to be heated separately; a mini-split has been installed in the overflow room; a wall on the sanctuary stage has been removed; a new back door and a new interior door have been installed; the upstairs has been cleaned out and reorganized; exterior window trim was added; new handrails on the front entrance were installed; and the sanctuary has been painted.
We are so grateful to Craig Hubbard who donated doors and the interior windows, Myron Johnson and Jerry Hut who have donated their construction labor, and Paul Ross who has donated his labor for painting the interior, as well as to all those who donated money to cover the costs.
Future projects include finishing the interior painting, installing new carpeting throughout the building, and renovating the kitchen and bathrooms.
