We will be in Luke 21 this week. I will be focusing on the Second Coming of Jesus. With our world being in much turbulence and uncertainty the Second Coming is a topic of great interest. Almost nightly you can find a prophecy teacher on television addressing this multi-faceted topic. How you interpret Scripture becomes very important when we address issues of prophecy. As a child I remember memorizing II Timothy 2:15. “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth”. The fellowship of churches that we are part of is called, “Berean”. In Acts 17:11 it says, “Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” Paul presented the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Jews in Berea and they “examined the Scriptures” to see if what Paul said was true. Correct Bible interpretation is based on understanding “context”. If we look at the “context” of a Bible verse we take into account the surrounding verses and understand what is happening in that setting. Who is speaking? Who is the audience? These become important if we are to “correctly handle the word of truth”. May that be said of us as we study prophecy subjects this week.
