One of my favorite passages in the Old Testament is found in Jeremiah 17:5-8. Thus saith the Lord: Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans and who rely on human strength and have turned their hearts away from the Lord. For they are like stunted shrubs in a desolate dry desert with no hope for the future. They will live in the barren wilderness, in an uninhabited salty land. BUT blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made Him their hope an confidence. For they are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that run deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried about long months of drought. Their leaves stay green and they never stop producing fruit.
What a beaufiful picture of life without Christ and life with him. I pray that as you read this, you will make Jesus your hope and confidence. Pastor Drew used to pray that God’s people would grow deep into God’s Word, kind of like the trees in the above passage reaching deep down into the life-giving water. God’s precious Word is our living water. I pray that you utilize it more than just on Sunday mornings.
If you missed last Sunday, make sure and come this Sunday and hear retired pastor John Wetzig speak on 2nd Peter. Good stuff !
See you Sunday!
